The publication Sceneries provides comprehensive insight into the diverse and multilayered work of the German photographer Thomas Wrede.
For the first time, it brings together works from the last 25 years, including well-known series such as Domestic Landscapes, which shows complex »picture-in-picture« situations in photographic wallpaper, or »Die Vögel stehen in der Luft und schreien« (The birds hover in the air and cry), black and white photographs of birds’ usually fatal collisions with window panes.
The point of departure for Wrede's photographic work is consistently a yearning for nature and the issue of how this is communicated in the media. In new works from his hit series Real Landscapes he explores the boundaries between real and surreal worlds and presents us with an exciting interplay of truth and fiction. He consciously shifts these boundaries and raises the question of how faithful to reality photography is.
The publication was released to accompany the extensive exhibition Sceneries by Thomas Wrede at the Von der Heydt Kunsthalle in Wuppertal in 2018 and was published by Kehrer Verlag.
