Hartmut Neumann. Considering Change. Photographic Works 1997–2017
The Cologne-based artist Hartmut Neumann (born 1954), primarily known for his painting, has been a professor at the Braunschweig University of Art since 1992. A little later he began to grapple with photography in relation to his paintings and drawings. His photographic work is not about depicting lived reality but rather about inventing another reality. In the often vibrant, colorful works he reflects on the representability of things in general. Classic-looking black and white works have been included since the 2000s. The first retrospective exhibition of the photographs in the Museum Ratingen aspired to situate the different series in the artistic oeuvre and will be comprehensively presented in this book along with a seminal text by Klaus Honnef.
